Members of Fulwood Branch spent five chilly hours on Saturday collecting for the S6 Foodbank. It was a great success with more than 30 crates filled with donations of food and household items.

The collection stall outside the Co-Operative store in Fulwood village was busy and there were lots of supportive comments – as well as donations. Some people also gave cash, with £62 donated for the charity to spend on much-needed items for the people it supports. Many people expressed their concern that foodbanks and collections like this were necessary and welcomed the opportunity to help, adding they will be supporting a further collection early next month. It was a case of putting people first.

The collection was promoted in advance by delivering more than 600 leaflets to homes in the immediate area for Fulwood village and Branch Chair, Hugh Tollyfield felt this had worked well. “Thank you to all the members who gave their time on Saturday morning. Their efforts were well rewarded – we even had to ask the foodbank for extra collection crates midway through the morning,” he said.
“Also thank you to the Co-Op, its manager and staff for allowing the collection. Most of all thanks to the people of Fulwood who supported the collection so well.”

The S6 Foodbank helps those in need in the postcode areas S6, S10, S11 and parts of S3. Over the past year it has helped more than 5,000 people and the numbers being referred for help continue to grow.

Fulwood Branch will be holding another collection outside the Co-Op on Saturday 10 December, from 9.00am to 2.00pm.
